Art Workshop: Origami Garlands
with Cydney Miller
Join the California Nature Art Museum and Artist Cydney Miller for an origami garland workshop on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, from 2PM-4PM. Learn how to make a colorful garland of origami cranes or butterflies with a variety of decorative accents. This is an entry-level class, but experienced origami-makers are also welcome! All participants will take home one decorative origami garland with a string of serene cranes, beautiful butterflies, or a combination of both.
About Origami
Origami (from the Japanese words 'ori', to fold and 'gami', paper) is a centuries old art form. Every finished piece begins with a square sheet of paper. Completion of the piece requires only folding, no cutting or gluing.
About the Instructor:
Cydney Miller’s lifelong interest in the intersection of art, the natural world, and humanity first led her to designing and building alternative energy structures in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, Miller also taught adult workshops and extension classes while co-authoring a college textbook on solar energy.
While raising her family, Miller spent nearly three decades teaching as a Montessori teacher for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. The emphasis on teaching the whole child and the connectedness of all things allowed Miller to continue sharing her passion for the arts, the environment, and education.
Miller continues to be a visitor-favorite not only as a CalNAM Gift Shop consigner, but also as an annual Holiday Martketplace Vendor, continuing to share her love of such arts as origami in small and intentional ways.
