Chuck Graham’s Paddling Into a Natural Balance: Stories of Kayaking & Conservation Around Channel Islands National Park

FRI. JANUARY 26TH, 2024 / 4:30 PM–6:00 PM

At the California Nature Art Museum (formerly the Wildling Museum), Second Floor Valley Oak Gallery

Ten chapters and 170 photographs vividly describe conservation efforts observed from Chuck Graham’s kayak. In February 2021, after photographing a bald eagle on the cliffs surrounding Scorpion Anchorage, Graham was inspired to create this pertinent and breathtaking ode to Channel Islands National Park.

Chuck Graham is a freelance writer and photographer based in Carpinteria. He has been a beach lifeguard there for 30 years and has led kayak tours around the Channel Islands since 1998. His work has been published in Backpacker, BBC Wildlife Magazine, National Geographic, Men’s Journal, Natural History, American Forests, High Country News, and Westways. His award-winning book, Carrizo Plain, Where the Mountains Meet the Grasslands, was released in January 2021. His second book, Hike the Channel Islands, was co-authored with John McKinney and released in Spring 2022.
